INVITATION TO GROUPS AND ASSOCIATIONS:

SUPPORT THIS CAMPAIGN!

You are no doubt concerned about the proliferation of contraband tobacco, a social and economic problem that supports organized crime and encourages smoking among young people. As the situation has persisted for years without making any real progress, it is essential to get mobilized and act now. Today, we are proud to offer you such an opportunity through the 10% • 2010 CONTRABAND OBJECTIVE campaign.

Leading the fight against contraband cigarettes, the Canadian Convenience Stores Association (CCSA) is launching one of the largest campaigns ever organized to mobilized federal Members of Parliament
and /or Provincial MPP’s (Ontario), MHA’s (Quebec), MLA’s (NB, NS, PEI) and MHA’s (NFLD). Over the next few months, we will call upon them to take on the challenge of reducing contraband tobacco in their ridings to 10% in 2010. From May to August, through a petition, a media tour and other awareness-raising activities, they will ask them to commit to start taking concrete local actions in the fight against contraband tobacco.

To achieve success, we need your support. Considering that Members of Parliament are the foundation of our democratic system, we believe in their leadership role and potential contribution to curbing contraband tobacco. By encouraging them to commit to the campaign, we recognize their importance. And the more groups like yours join us, the more commitments and results there will be.

If you support the 10% • 2010 CONTRABAND OBJECTIVE campaign, your endorsement will get mentioned in the various media activities we have planned, such as a website, media tours and press conferences. Please find a proposed resolution for your board of directors to discuss and decide whether it is appropriate for your organization.
